making anzac biscuits

It was fun making them because we ate them in class and it is Anzac day on Wednesday 25th April.
We like the anzac biscuits.
Mrs Black helped us making the Anzac biscuits. During the war the mums and wives made them and sent them to the soldiers. The ingredients didn't spoil easily.

Why We Have Easter!

I think we have Easter because of the moon. The moon is connected to Easter because there is a crater shaped like a bunny and a bunny means life in some country's. The eggs sprang up because in the Bible the rock covering Jesus tomb is shaped like an egg so that's where the eggs came from and he rose on Easter Sunday.

By Rosie

You got me wondering Rosie and this is what I discovered-there is also an Egyptian connection

It is the hare, and not the rabbit, that should be treated as the true symbol of Easter. Though both of them belong to the 'Lagomorpha' family and have a lot of  things in common, there are some differences.

Since the ancient times the hare has been a symbol for the moon. Not the rabbit. And the legend says, the hare never closes its eyes, not even for a single blink!

Easter Bunny with eggs
Bunny jumps 2

The reason for this belief may be in the fact that hares, not rabbits, are born with eyes open. Rabbits are born blind.

The ancient Egyptians related hares to the moon. The Egyptian name for hare was 'un', meaning 'open'. And they loved watching the full moon open eyed throughout the night
.
Rabbits have shorter legs and therefore move in little hops, while hares have longer rear legs and can jump far distances. Baby rabbits, or bunnies (except maybe the Easter Bunny), are helpless when they are born because their eyes are closed and they have no fur. Baby hares have their eyes open at birth and they are born with full fur; they can hop soon after they are born. Also, most rabbits live underground, but hares live above ground.

Rosies Leaving

On Thursday last day of the term I am leaving. I am going to Clearview in Rollston. Clearview is a very new school and opened last year and most likely has less students then Harewood . I am going to vist Clearview tomorrow. I am exited and sad to leave Harewood but exited to go to Clearview

Claude Monet

Look what I have discovered Room 8- there is even a rose named after our famous artist. This rose is called Claude Monet.

We looked at Claude Monet's painting "Water Lilies and Japanese Bridge" then painted our own. We used a stencil of the bridge to get the shape right.Once we had painted the lily pond and the trees behind the bridge we removed our bridge stencil.

You can still visit Monet's garden in Giverny in France. The bridge and water lily pond are still there.
have a look here for more photos of his famous garden.
