Raining Cats and Dogs

We have been wondering where this saying came from.Do you have any ideas?

  1. In the olden days (at least 25 years ago...) houses had roofs made of straw, and cats and dogs used to sleep in the rafters above where people lived. When it rained, the rafters would get slippery and the cats and dogs would fall from their sleeping spots - hence the saying - it's Raining Cats and Dogs.

    Have a great day

  2. I love finding out the origins of sayings. You have sent me to the internet with your question and I have discovered lots of interesting new facts - I went off on a tangent and found out about actual cases of strange events such as raining frogs and fish! Mrs Tamblyn
