to fall of a boat. We learnt
how to get your life jacket on in the
water. Also when there is lighting
to tip the boat over and go
under. We had lots of fun like

Matariki

Matariki is an especially important cluster of stars to Maori.
The Matariki stars were used to navigate, to keep time and
know what season they were in.

We shared a legend about the fish and the stars

We also made harakeke fish.Mrs Freeborn came in and taught us.
We learnt the rules when we are working with harakeke-(flax)

Respect the harakeke
Walk around it-don’t walk on it
Wash hands very well
Don’t eat or drink around the harakeke
When you learn a new Maori craft you give the first item you make away
Don’t cut flax at night time
Don’t cut flax in the rain
Maori say a prayer of thanks
Only cut enough harakeke
Don’t throw scraps away return them to the ground for compost

Only cut the older leaves from the outside-grandparents
Cut at the very bottom on a downward angle

Our Awesome Performance

Room 8 you were amazing- I was so proud of all of you - you looked super groovy, were wonderful disco dancers and managed yourselves so well.We all had a fabulous time.-Miss France

On Thursday 14/6/12 the whole school did  the Dancing Down Memory Lane presentation. Our class was the 70's groovy man act. I think we were the best class but the other classes did their best as well. In our YMCA dance everyone in the audience started clapping to the beat  because they where popular songs in the 1970s . We did a great job. Henry did some tie dyeing on his t-shirt.I wore a gross gold medallion.
